Training Practice

We are a QUB (Queens University of Belfast) accredited training practice. This means that we will have doctors specialising in General Practice working here in the practice and you may be offered an appointment with him / her.

Nurse Practitioner

Mrs Karen Shiels (f)

Practice nurse Karen Shiels has qualifications in Asthma and COPD, Diabetes, Coronary Heart Disease and Breast and Cervical screening. 

Karen offers the following clinics by appointment: asthma and COPD including spirometry, diabetes, coronary heart disease, cervical screening, cryotherapy, weight management and travel advice and vaccinations.

Mrs Samantha McCooke (f)

Samantha has been trained and is qualified in taking bloods, ECGs, wound care management, removal of stitches, Blood Pressure and providing health promotion and advice.

If you need to speak to any of the nursing staff please telephone the practice and a member of staff will return your call.

Practice Management

The practice managers are involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

The administration team are skilled in dealing with all patient requests in an efficient, courteous and confidential manner.

The receptionists are your first point of contact with the practice. They will help you obtain the medical or nursing services you require under full instructions of the doctors. Their job is very demanding and they often have to do 'six things at once' so please be patient.

All staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctor.

Pharmacists

Practice Based Pharmacist

Since April 2016, GP Federations have been recruiting GPPs. to work as an integral part of the general practice team to deliver direct patient care and increase capacity in primary care. Our GPP workforce across NI now stands at over 340 pharmacists and adds a valuable resource to practice teams.

Community Midwives

The community midwife provides community based care for antenatal and postnatal women. The antenatal clinic is held every Friday morning in the practice.

Community Nurses

The District Nursing Service provides community based nursing care for adults.   The Nursing Team has high specialist skills to deliver quality care to acute, chronic, and terminally ill patients who are house bound.

Hours of duty: 9:00am to 5:00pm

Contact number: 028 256 35521 - This is the number for the central referral management system based in Ballymena. (CRMS). - You can contact your own GP or contact CRMS directly and a member of staff will direct you.

Health Visitors

Janice Clements (f)

The health visitor is responsible for assessing and helping to meet the health needs of individuals, the family and the wider community. She is available to offer guidance and support on issues that impact on you or your family’s health. Topics include: parenting, growth and development, feeding your child/family, immunisation, child and adolescent mental health including behaviour management, postnatal depression and bed wetting.

Macmillan Nurses

They provide specialist advice on palliative care, support to patient and family in the home, day care and volunteer practical help and bereavement counselling.
